The Roastery closed for good on 25 September 2025, about eight months after I wrote this. Starbucks shut both Seattle Reserve locations the same day, as part of a wider round of closures. The building is a restored 1920s auto showroom on Pike Street and it ran for nearly eleven years.

I have left the piece exactly as it was. It was true when I wrote it, and a place that no longer exists is still worth a record of what it was like to stand in. Everything below is written in the present tense about somewhere you can no longer go.
